Queens Tech Corner: Abiodun Johnson of GeoCloud

Can you tell us a little about your company and how you got your start?

GeoCloud is a location intelligence platform designed to create hyperlocal experiences. We empower consumers, businesses, and government organizations to connect with the people around them in meaningful ways. By leveraging location data, we help businesses and institutions engage their audiences, drive local discovery, and foster stronger community connections. Our platform bridges the gap between digital and physical spaces, making it easier for people to explore, experience, and interact with their surroundings.

I co-founded GeoCloud in 2020 alongside my partner, who was working at Uber Eats at the time. We were both deeply interested in the power of location data—its potential and how it could be applied in new, transformative ways. That curiosity led to a breakthrough: we recognized a massive opportunity to redefine how people navigate and experience the world around them. This vision became the foundation of GeoCloud, and since then, we've been building a platform that enhances local engagement, drives discovery, and creates more immersive hyperlocal experiences.

How did you get your start in tech?

I got my start in tech right after college, but my passion for building and problem-solving started much earlier. While studying Engineering Sciences at Dartmouth College, I was drawn to the challenge of using technology to solve real-world problems. I loved the process of breaking down complex issues, designing solutions, and seeing them come to life. After graduating, I teamed up with former roommates to build a sports video tutorial platform. Our goal was to help aspiring athletes improve their skills by giving them access to an extensive library of techniques from some of the top players in the country. That experience reinforced what I already knew—I wasn’t just interested in engineering; I wanted to build products that made an impact. That drive led me to entrepreneurship, where I could combine my technical expertise with a passion for solving meaningful problems.

What is your latest project, and why are you excited about it?

Our latest project is the launch of interactive kiosks featuring hyperlocal content at high-traffic locations. These kiosks provide real-time information on the best places to visit, experiences to enjoy, and events happening in the area. By delivering engaging and immersive recommendations, our solution encourages travelers to explore Queens and surrounding New York boroughs in a way that feels personal and dynamic—ultimately driving greater engagement with local businesses and boosting the tourism economy.

We’re actively partnering with airports, hotels, destination marketing organizations, and local government agencies such as the MTA and DOT to expand the reach of our kiosks across the city. Our goal is to make it easier for both residents and visitors to discover the hidden gems of New York, turning every journey into a uniquely local experience.
