Queens Tech Corner: Ahad Ali of Tabby

Can you tell us a little about your company and how you got your start?

Tabby was born out of my experience running a CPA firm and working with thousands of self-employed & small business clients. I kept seeing the same struggle: people were great at their work, but bookkeeping always slowed them down. Many relied on spreadsheets, others tried complicated software they didn’t understand, and most ended up scrambling at tax time. I knew there had to be a better way. So, with my co-founder, we built Tabby — a simple, AI-powered bookkeeping app that automates expense tracking, finds deductions, and makes sure your books are always tax-ready.

How did you get your start in tech?

I came into tech through accounting. After years of seeing clients overpay taxes or waste weekends on bookkeeping, I realized software could solve this problem at scale. That’s when I teamed up with my co-founder Shah, who has a background in launching multiple tech products. My accounting experience gave us the real-world use cases, and Shah brought the product vision and execution that made Tabby possible.

What’s your latest project and why are you excited about it?

Right now, I’m most excited about Tabby for regular people — freelancers, gig workers, and small business owners. We just launched it a few months ago, and the response has been incredible. For years, I saw people struggle with spreadsheets or expensive, complicated software. Tabby changes that by making bookkeeping simple, automated, and mobile-first. The future includes a version for accountants, but today my focus is on helping everyday people save time and money with Tabby
