Queens Tech Corner: Bryan Carpio of Dr. Byte Technologies
Can you tell us a little about your company and how you got your start?
Dr. Byte Technologies is the culmination of a decade-long journey through the highest levels of corporate infrastructure. I started out of necessity, fixing phones and hardware in college to make ends meet. After leaving medical school, I climbed the ranks from a Systems Admin at an MSP to IT Manager and Director roles, eventually serving as a CTO at Fox News. There, I led a multimillion-dollar Tier 4 Data Center project for the presidential election in partnership with Deloitte. After seeing how the Digital Renaissance model, a philosophy of high-efficiency, human-centric systems architecture, could disrupt and optimize even the largest corporate environments, I realized I had to launch a company to bring that world-class architecture to the rest of the world.
What connection do you have to Queens?
Queens is home. I grew up here and graduated salutatorian from the Academy of Medical Technology, and went to Queens College. Three of our core team members—including Valentina and Jordany—are proud Queens residents. We are a global company by design, but our perspective is rooted in the World’s Borough. Being from Queens provides a unique global perspective that no other place can offer. With the massive transformations happening at our airports, casinos, and the developments in LIC and Jamaica, we want to revolutionize and set the standard for technology architecture right from our own backyard.
Do you do any work to support your local community? What is that work?
We believe you cannot have smart cities without smart people. Beyond our R&D at Campo Cuttica, we are leveraging our industry knowledge and university collaborations to train the next generation of the IT workforce in Queens. Furthermore we want to create Technology Architects built on our philosophy to further modernize NYC. Our goal is to find and develop the best local engineers to create world-class technology architectures.
We also actively seek to integrate Queens-based AI and software companies into our projects, helping them commercialize their innovations within our larger architectural frameworks. Throughout my corporate career, I have trained and developed teams who are now working with some of the biggest tech companies leading massive projects. They came to me as NYC residents and are now traveling the world building and maintaining systems.
Why are you excited about the future of tech in Queens?
I want Queens to become the global Silicon Valley of Cyber-Physical Systems. While the original Silicon Valley was built on software vintages, Queens is positioned to lead the physical integration of tech. We have access to New York State’s manufacturing capacity, world-class universities, and real-world applications across airports, ports, stadiums, and smart city hubs like LIC. We don’t take our roots lightly; our mission is to lead the state of the art in technology from the place that raised us. Moreover, I am seeing an influx of engineers from California, and other parts of the world moving into Queens to share their talent into this massive transformation.
