Queens Tech Corner: Kevin Guillermo of BioStonk

Can you tell us a little about your company?

BioStonk was born from my interest in healthcare, artificial intelligence, and financial markets. I kept noticing the same issue: biotech stocks can move sharply because of clinical trial news, FDA updates, or drug development milestones, but most people only find out after the move has already happened. The information is public, but it is scattered across government databases, press releases, SEC filings, and trial records. For beginners, students, and retail investors, it can feel like you need a PhD just to understand what is happening. That gap is what motivated me to build BioStonk.

BioStonk turns upcoming trial readouts into plain-English briefs so users can understand which companies are exposed, what drug is being tested, what is at stake, and what risks may matter before major biotech news hits the market. It is a research tool, not financial advice, and the goal is to make biotech research more readable, organized, and accessible.

How’d you get your start in tech?

My start in tech came through building, mentorship, and wanting to solve real problems with software. I became interested in programming because I liked that technology could take complicated information and turn it into something useful.

America On Tech played a major role in my start. Through AOT, I gained exposure to coding, mentorship, and real project-building experience. I also want to give credit to people like Rohan Ramnarain and Coyote Rosa, who helped create opportunities and spaces where students like me could grow, ask questions, and start seeing ourselves in tech.

I later became a Peer Mentor for America on Tech, which gave me the chance to help younger students gain confidence with technology. Additionally as a Computer Science student at Hunter College, I became more focused on data science, machine learning, and AI tools. Those experiences helped me realize that my strongest interest is building technology that makes complex systems easier to understand.

Why are you excited about the future of tech in Queens?

I am excited about the future of tech in Queens because Queens has the kind of talent and perspective the tech industry needs more of. Queens is full of students, small business owners, immigrants, healthcare workers, builders, and entrepreneurs who understand problems from the ground level. That matters because the best technology does not just sound impressive. It solves real problems for real people.

I think the next wave of tech in Queens will come from founders building practical tools in healthcare, education, finance, small business, and public-interest technology. That is the kind of ecosystem I want BioStonk to be part of. .

It’s Queens Tech Corner time! The Queens Tech Corner is a monthly profile where we shine a spotlight on tech entrepreneurs doing exciting things right here in Queens. This month’s featured tech entrepreneur is Kevin Guillermo, Founder of BioStonk, an AI biotech catalyst intelligence platform built to help people understand market-moving clinical trial events in plain English..
